After much deliberation -- read: the three comments posted on Friday's post soliciting suggestions -- and several sleepless nights, we've decided to retire the Joe Fulce Undersung Eagle of the Game Award here on Anonymous Eagle. Actually, "retire" probably isn't the right word; we're not getting rid of it, we've just decided not to name the award after a new player every year. Is there any other reason for this than: we just can't quit Joe Fulce? No. No, there is not. And we make no apologies for it.
That said: the fact that the UEotG will henceforth and forever be named after Joe Fulce doesn't mean that we can't adopt a member of this year's team for a new award; this is our blog, after all, and if the awards section ends up 700 words long because we've created 28 separate awards for every game, more power to us.
Thus, after a great deal of thought, we've decided to name this season's award after the heir to the long-vacant Marquette big man throne, Davante Gardner. It was a close call, as you'd expect with so many worthy candidates, but at the end of the day, the Big Ox's credentials were simply overwhelming.*
* And, before all you Nancy Drews and Junior Columbos out there ask whether this new award has anything to do with the fact that Davante became the second current Golden Eagle to follow AE on Twitter last night: as always, those two things are entirely unrelated. Frankly, I'm offended you would draw that conclusion. How dare you, sir/madam. How DARE you.
Anyway, here's the part of the show where I come to you for help again: though we've decided on the Big Ox as the namesake for the award, we're still not sure what to call it. I, myself, am partial to The Bix Ox "SEND IT IN, BIG FELLA" Award, but I've been told that's lame and unoriginal. So: your thoughts and suggestions in the comments, please.
And don't forget to vote.
