Volleyball Regular Season Finale: Northern Illinois 3, Marquette 0

Stay connected for news and updates

Go ahead and put it on the list of ways you're not going to win a volleyball match: Hitting .116 as a team.

Combine that performance with a road match against one of the best teams in the country in Northern Illinois, and it's a recipe for a sweep. That's what happened to Marquette on Saturday afternoon, falling 25-19, 25-22, and 25-20.

9 kills was the team high for Marquette, which was reached by both Ashley Beyer and Holly Mertens. Chelsea Heier chipped in 31 assists and Julie Jeziorowskii led the Golden Eagles in digs with 12.

The MAC's Player Of The Year was the focal point of the Huskies' attack, as Lauren Wicinski was the only NIU player with double digit kills.

Marquette will have to wait for the NCAA Selection Show this evening at 5pm on ESPNU to see if they have put in enough work to earn the program's first ever NCAA Tournament bid.
