Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Marquette picked up major awards in each of the three fall spectator sports after an undefeated week.

In a week where Marquette's teams did not drop a single match, four of their athletes were honored by the Big East yesterday for their play, including three major awards.

Holly Mertens was named Big East Women's Volleyball Player Of The Week for her part in Marquette's wins over Notre Dame and DePaul. Mertens had career highs of 20 kills and nine blocks against the Irish and followed that up with a .667 hitting percentage outing on the way to a team high 13 kills against DePaul.

Largely because of his nine save shutout outing against Providence, Charlie Lyon earned Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a double overtime win against the Badgers in your back pocket to help make your case for these kinds of things.

In women's soccer, Emily Jacobson was named Big East Defensive Player Of The Week. Not only did she play all 180 minutes in Marquette's two shutout wins over Louisville and Cincinnati, but she also had three points on the weekend, including her first goal of the season against Louisville. Maegan Kelly was named to the Big East Honor Roll for her hat trick against Cincinnati.
