Apparently Holly Mertens heard what I said about Danielle Carlson's accuracy yesterday. The preseason All-Big East honoree had 18 kills on 25 attempts with just two errors for a personal hitting percentage of .640 to help Marquette hit .304 as a team and beat Cincinnati 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23).
Marquette wasn't able to contain Cincinnati's Jordanne Scott, as she had 17 kills and hit .359, but none of the other Bearcats presented any kind of sustained offensive threat.
Julie Jeziorowski moved into sole possession of second place on MU's all time digs list when she passed Erin Freer's total of 1,404 digs with six in the first set. Jeziorowski now sits at 1,414 digs and is on pace, with a few four set matches or a few post season matches, to surpass Jamie Mueller's all time record of 1,567 digs by the end of the season.
Marquette stays unbeaten and alone in first place in the Big East heading into tomorrow's match up with #15 Louisville. First place will be on the line tomorrow as the Cardinals have only slipped once in conference play, a 3-2 home loss to Notre Dame.
