Rachel Sloan poked the ball into the box where Taylor Madigan and Georgetown keeper Emma Newins converged on the ball. The ball popped into the air and past Newins where Madigan was able to give the ball a controlled strike and score with just over 2 minutes remaining in the Big East Championship game.
After 45 minutes of play, Marquette and Georgetown are still scoreless in the Big East Women's Soccer Championship game.
Play has mostly been on Marquette's end, including a spectacular chance after the ball deflected off of Georgetown keeper Emma Newins and was loose in the box. But after a series of deflections, the ball ended up pinned under a fallen Lisa Philbin and the referee called for a stoppage.
Marquette has done an excellent job neutralizing Big East Offensive Player Of The Year Daphne Corboz, and continuing that will be the key to finding a goal to bring the Big East title home to Milwaukee.
Marquette has the lead on shots, 7-2.
