Brandt named Offensive Player & Freshman of the Week
Freshman attacker Carsen Brandt was rewarded for his big outing against Lindenwood. Here's what the Big East office had to say about him: After contributing a pair of goals in his collegiate debut, Carsen Brandt led the Marquette offense once again to earn his second consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolade, as well as the first Player of the Week honor of his career. The freshman attacker registered a hat-trick and dished out a trio of assists to tie for the BIG EAST lead with six points on the week. Brandt led the Golden Eagles to a 16-5 win over Lindenwood on Friday to improve to 2-0 on the year. In addition to Brandt's awards, Mason Woodward and Luke Williams were named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Here's Woodward's writeup: Anchoring the Golden Eagles’ defense, Woodward caused a turnover and collected four ground balls, while also limiting Lindenwood to just five goals. Woodward also set the Marquette career ground ball record. And here's what they had on Williams: Williams won 7-of-10 faceoffs and picked up six ground balls in Marquette’s victory on Saturday.
Bireley Named OPOTW; Huber on Weekly Honor Roll
Marquette women's lacrosse earned two nods from the Big East office in the season's first weekly awards. First, Meg Bireley was named Offensive Player of the Week. Here's what the league said about her: Bireley started off the season with a bang, posting a career-high seven goals in Marquette’s 18-12 opening win over Cincinnati on Sunday. The junior was a consistent presence on the offensive end throughout the matchup, totaling career highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (10). She also helped out with a caused turnover and ground ball, leading the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 start. Defender Kaitlyn Huber made the Weekly Honor Roll as well.
