Tomorrow night at 6pm at Valley Fields, the #12/#19 Marquette women's soccer team (17-3-0) makes its 4th straight and 10th overall appearance in the NCAA College Cup when they take on Toledo (14-6-2). The winner of this match will take on the winner of Army/Penn State next weekend at a location to be determined.
Marquette will bring their 11th best in the country 2.5 goals per game and their tough defense (Big East low 13 goals allowed) into the match against the Mid-American Conference champion Rockets. Maegan Kelly leads Marquette with 38 points (14 goals, 10 assists) and keeper Natalie Kulla has been outstanding, with 10 shutouts and a 0.67 goals-against average, good enough for 27th best in the country. Kulla stands at 32 career shutouts, just 2 shutouts away from tying the all time NCAA record at 44.
This is Toledo's first NCAA appearance since 2008 and was powered by Rachel MacLeod, the MAC's Offensive Player of the Year, who recorded 31 points for the year on 11 goals and 9 assists. Nicole Gyurgyik and Kristen Lynn also reached 20 points for the Rockets, while keeper Vicki Traven was selected to the All-MAC First Team.
Tomorrow's match is the third meeting of the two squads, and the first since 1996. Marquette leads the all time series, 1-0-1.
