Marquette 71, Prairie View A&M 51

Things started to look troubling for the Golden Eagles late in the first half of the second game of the women's side of the 2011 Paradise Jam. In a 5 minute stretch where Prairie View A&M reeled off a 12-4 run to give them a 33-25 lead, Marquette committed 5 turnovers and made just 2 of 6 shots.

But Marquette answered with a run of their own. Stretching across halftime, MU went on a 18-2 run to build an 8 point lead of their own, and from that point, they never looked back. Katherine Plouffe scored 14 of her team and career high 22 points in the second half as Marquette cruised to a 71-51 victory.

Marquette improves to 3-2 on the season, while Prairie View A&M falls to 1-3. Marquette takes the floor for their third Paradise Jam game tonight at 7pm Central against Michigan. Terri Mitchell will be looking for her 300th career win and, with a Washington State loss to Prairie View A&M, Marquette would win the Paradise Jam Reef Division.

Abbie Willenborg Player Of The Game: Career high in points, first career 20 point game, Marquette is 2-0 when she leads the team in scoring. Tack on 6 rebounds and her third straight game with at least 5 assists and Katherine Plouffe picks up the award for this game.

Clare Barnard Undersung Eagle Of The Game: Chelsie Butler missed on a double double by just one rebound, stuffing the stat sheet with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and two each in the assists, blocks and steals column. That's some high quality performance in just 23 minutes of action.
