All Good Things Must Come To An End: #1 Tennessee 79, #8 Marquette 70

Pat Summitt's Tennessee Lady Volunteers have long been a powerhouse in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.  But Terri Mitchell and the Marquette Golden Eagles were never afraid of them.  Tennessee ran out to a 8-0 lead to start the game, but that didn't mean anything to Marquette.  Behind 2 made three pointers from both Tatiyiana McMorris and Courtney Weibel, both seniors trying to extend their career one more game, Marquette came roaring back to tie the game at 30 with 3:51 remaining in the first half.

Tennessee would manage to push the lead back to 4 points at 39-35 at halftime, and all the way to 12 points at the 14:51 mark, but the senior powered Golden Eagles would not go away.  Angel Robinson scored with 6:17 remaining to pull Marquette back within 1, but that's the closest that Marquette would come to taking the lead for the rest of the way.

It was an outstanding effort and an outstanding cap to a great season for Terri Mitchell's squad.

Awards and whimsy after the jump:

Abbie Willenborg Player of the Game: It's hard to overlook a stat sheet stuffing from your point guard, so this goes to Angel Robinson.  19 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, a steal and a block.

Clare Barnard Undersung Eagle of the Game: Jasmine Collins posted 14 points, 2 rebounds and an assist in 30 minutes while providing relief for the foul plagued Paige Fiedorowicz.

Whimsy: Ok, it may not be whimsical, but I figure that the 2011 Senior Night video deserves this spot.  A giant thank you for your years as Golden Eagles to Angel Robinson, Tatiyiana McMorris, Paige Fiedorowicz, Jasmine Collins, Courtney Weibel and Jocelyn Mellen.
