With the 10th pick in the 2nd round (#22 overall) of the 2011 WNBA Draft, the New York Liberty selected Marquette G Angel Robinson. Robinson becomes the 2nd Marquette player taken in the WNBA Draft, following in the footsteps of Abbie Willenborg, who was taken #64 overall by the Houston Comets in 2000.
Robinson is the third and final Big East player taken in the WNBA Draft, behind Connecticut F Maya Moore (#1 selection, Minnesota Lynx) and DePaul F Felicia Chester (#14, Minnesota Lynx).
Robinson finished her career at Marquette in the top 12 all time in points (6th), rebounds (12th), assists (3rd), steals (2nd), field goals made (8th), free throws attempted (2nd) and free throws made (2nd). The All Big East First Team member because the only player in Marquette women's basketball history to record over 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 250 steals in a career.
UPDATE: Apparently the Minnesota Lynx are attempting to create a team composed entirely of Big East players, as they have acquired Angel and a 2012 2nd round pick in exchange for North Carolina F Jessica Breland.
