Marquette looks to take a big step up and make a statement about their season tonight at 8pm in the Al McGuire Center when #19/17 Georgetown comes rolling into to town. $2 Tuesdays means general admission tickets are just $2 for you locals. For those of you from out of town, the game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with James Bates and Tammy Blackburn calling the action. In case you were wondering, yes, that's the same crew that called the game against Villanova that featured Katie Young's buzzer beater one week ago.
The Hoyas started the season ranked #10/11 in the country, but early season losses at regional rival #11 at the time Maryland and at #20 at the time LSU knocked them down a few spots. They fired back with 11 straight wins after that, but have lost 2 of their last four coming in to tonight. Then again, the two losses were to #20/18 DePaul and #2/2 Notre Dame, so maybe it's not that big of a deal.
Big East Preseason honoree Sugar Rodgers leads the Hoyas and the Big East in scoring. The junior guard pours in 19.9 points a game and has been even better in Big East contests, averaging 20.3/game. Senior forward Tia Magee leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 caroms a game and is also the only other Hoya to average double digits in points with 11.3/game.
Marquette is 6-0 all time against Georgetown. In their last meeting, Marquette tipped #15/14 Georgetown 75-73 in double overtime in Washington DC during last season.
