Your 2012-13 Big East Media Day Open Thread/Live Blog

Welcome to Media Day, now with a live stream!

Jamie Rhodes-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

It's Big East Media Day today in New York, so we've opened up this space to chat about what we'll see. We already have two official announcements from the conference.

First, Marquette is picked to finish seventh by the coaches' poll. Louisville got every first place vote except for Rick Pitino, who is not allowed to vote for his own team and picked Notre Dame. The other announcement is the preseason all conference teams. In the category of "Things That Did Not Surprise Mr. Kensington," Peyton Siva was selected as the Preseason Player Of The Year. The other individual award is Preseason Rookie of the Year, and that one goes to PIttsburgh's Steven Adams. Rounding out the rest of the First Team is Cincinnati's Sean Kilpatrick, Georgetown's Otto Porter, Louisville's Gorgui Dieng, Notre Dame's Jack Cooley, and Providence's Vincent Council. That puts the official AE prediction count at 4 out of 6. I'll take it. Of the 15 players named to the all conference teams, none play for Marquette.

The Big East will be hosting it's own Media Day show on their website, so you can check in on the broadcast and see what Commisioner Mike Aresco has to say at his first Media Day. The broadcast is set to start around 9:00 Central time.

If you're keeping track on Twitter,'s Jeff Goodman is going to be at Media Day and is already tweeting about things he's looking forward to see. You can always keep track of the Big East's official Twitter account as well. I'd suggest the Marquette athletics and mens' basketball accounts, but you're already following those, right? As we see more people reporting from Media Day, we'll let you know.

UPDATE! Daniel Martin from NBC Sports is live in the building. Is he helping to remind the Big East of his company's interest in the conference's TV rights? WHO KNOWS?

UPDATE! The Big East and Madison Square Garden have reached a multi-year agreement to keep the conference's basketball tournament in The World's Most Famous Arena. The New York Post is reporting that the extension is for 10 years.

ITEM! Junior Cadougan: Sharp Dressed Man.

UPDATE! Brian Ewart of VU Hoops snagged two great quotes about the future of the Big East. First from Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey:

and then from Louisville head coach Rick Pitino:

UPDATE!'s Matt Sugam asked Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim about something that Pitino said about Syracuse and Pitt leaving the conference, and... well, Boeheim was Boeheim.

We'll be updating this page throughout the day as anything interesting happens, like if John Marinatto shows up thinking that he still has a job or something.
