The NCAA has announced the 64 team field for the 2012 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. After winning their first Big East Championship in program history, Marquette is slotted in as a 4 seed in their region. The NCAA only seeds 4 teams per region for the women's soccer tournament. BYU earned the 1 seed in Marquette's region, while North Carolina is the 2 seed and Baylor is the 3 seed.
Marquette gets their path to the 2012 College Cup started on Friday night at 7pm in the Valley. Standing in their way will be Illinois State. The Redbirds won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. We'll have more on this game later in the week. The winner of the MU-ISU game will move on to face the winner of Princeton and former Big East American Division member West Virginia.
Three other Big East teams made the field. Big East runner up Georgetown heads to Virginia Tech for their first round match, Rutgers sneaks in at 12-7-1 and will have to travel to Colgate for their opener, and Notre Dame rounds out the Big East's participation by hosting UWM in what we'll call a Meteor Strike game. UCF will be joining the Big East next season, so we may as well keep an eye on their first round match with Miami (FL).
