2.29 Big East Review

We had two games last night in the Big East. Both had Senior Night festivities and both ended well for the seniors being honored in those games. But one of them wasn't quite the result that was expected going in to the game.

West Virginia 92, DePaul 75 - Truck Bryant and Kevin Jones played their last game at home and the last Big East game in WVU Coliseum in outstanding fashion. Bryant went for 28 points and Jones added 22 points and 16 rebounds as the Mountaineers stomped the Blue Demons easily. Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young both had 21 points for the Blue Demons with Melvin adding 8 rebounds and Young getting 8 assists.

Providence 72, Connecticut 70 - Providence broke from Senior Night tradition and honored Bilal Dixon, a redshirt junior in his fourth year with the program for this game. In the second half of the game, they broke from the tradition of UConn scoring against them to that point in the game and went on a 26-5 run to come back from a 14 point deficit and take a 63-55 lead with 4:33 remaining. UConn would rally with the next 6 points, but the return of LaDontae Henton from being stuck on the bench with four fouls brought scoring for the Friars. Henton hit a pair of threes including one to beat the shot clock and give Providence a 69-61 lead with one minute to play.
