So we all know that Marquette men's soccer defender Axel Sjoberg had a pretty awesome weekend, scoring three goals - including two game winners - in his team's matches against Michigan and Michigan State. It turns out that a lot of people also think that he had an awesome weekend.
Yesterday, Sjoberg was named the Big East's Offensive Player Of The Week. Again, the Big East's OFFENSIVE Player Of The Week is a defender. But that's not all! Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News both selected Sjoberg as their NATIONAL Player Of The Week. How about them apples?!? Oh, and he's the GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete Of The Week, and I'm guessing that the voting on that one wasn't close.
Two other Marquette athletes earned recognition from the Big East for their play over the last week. Women's soccer's Ally Miller was named to the Big East Honor Roll in her sport after anchoring a defense that allowed just one goal in their matches against Pitt and George Mason and managing to chip in a goal along the way. Danielle Carlson was named to the women's volleyball Honor Roll after making the all-tournament team at the Marquette Invitational. Carlson averaged 2.42 kills and an impressive 1.5 blocks per set.
