Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook's Mark Miller is reporting that John Dawson has verbally committed to Marquette and head coach Buzz Williams. Dawson is a 6'2", 190 lb. guard from Clovis (NM) High School. Dawson and Clovis made it to the state semifinals in 2012 where Dawson had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in their final game of the season.
Dawson joins top 100 recruits Duane Wilson and Deonte Burton as well as top junior college player Jameel McKay in Marquette's recruiting class for 2012. If Chris Otule is granted a waiver for a sixth season, then Buzz is done recruiting for this recruiting class. Since we won't know til next summer if Otule will be back, I think it's safe to say that we'll still see discussion of Buzz on the recruiting trail for 2013.
Let's get to opinions on Dawson, starting with Mark Miller:
John Dawson, the 6-2 combo guard from New Mexico who committed to Marquette today, is 6'2" and about 190 pounds. Can create off bounce.

Dawson is also a very consistent perimeter shooter who flew a bit under-the-radar with national scouts.

By "under the radar," Miller is referring to Dawson's lack of ranking from Scout. Not low ranking. LACK of ranking. ESPN has him as a three star recruit ranked 51st at his position, 41st in his region, and 2nd in New Mexico.
Speaking of ESPN, here's ESPN's Reggie Rankin:
John Dawson to Marquette 1/2 combo handle and score. Excels on and off the ball and is a good athlete.

Sounds a lot like TJ Taylor to me. Seeing as he's essentially taking Taylor's scholarship, that makes sense.
And we'll wrap up with Paint Touches from last week:
Marquette has offered, and was in Clovis on Monday to see him. From small samples, Dawson is an excellent passer as a pass-first point guard and has a nice stroke from outside. Dawson boasts six offers but would not say whom, but [Auburn, Colorado State, Creighton, Marquette, UTEP, and Wyoming] have been listed with him.
