Men's Soccer: #9 Georgetown 1, #16 Marquette 0 (OT)

A Hoyas' header off of a corner kick has the Golden Eagles tasting defeat for the first time in Big East play this season.

An uncalled Georgetown handball in the first half robbed Adam Lysak of a goal.

Things that are more frustrating than watching 110 minutes of scoreless soccer: watching 94 minutes of scoreless soccer only to see the winning golden goal go against your team in overtime off the head of Georgetown's Ted Helfrich.

The good: The usually fantastic Charlie Lyon upped his game, winning two spectacular challenges in the second half. In the 67th minute, a Hoya attacker went flying through the air as Lyon clamped down on the ball and somehow neither party was injured.  Then Alex Muyl left the field in the 86th with an injury when Lyon came out to stop his attack.

The bad: the win pulls Georgetown into a tie with Marquette atop the Big East standings with 16 points.  Xavier beat Providence and is nipping at the leaders' heels at 15 points.

The something: I spent most of the drive home grousing about the Golden Eagles' offense. With the exception of their 3-2 win over Butler, Marquette has not mustered more than one goal in their conference matches and haven't scored since Louis Bennett II's gamewinner against Providence. Georgetown's Tomas Gomez would be a tough test on a good day and the Golden Eagles did show some life getting a flurry of shots off late so I'll hold off on hitting the panic button until..

Up Next: a Senior Night doubleheader for men's and women's soccer on Saturday November 2th. The men will take on Seton Hall, 7-7-2 overall and 3-4 in conference, who upset 22nd ranked Creighton 3-2 tonight. Well, shit.
