#4 Providence 2, #5 Creighton 1 - Wilder Arboleda gave the Friars a 1-0 lead with 10 seconds left in the first half and then assisted on Dominik Machado's eventual game-winner in the 64th minute to push the Friars into the semifinals. Creighton managed to halve the lead with just over three minutes left on a header from Eric DeJulio on a corner kick by Bruno Castro, but it was too little, too late. The Bluejays switched keepers at half, changing from regular starter Alex Bolowich to backup Connor Sparrow. It was the second win over Creighton at Ray Treacy Track in four days.
Providence advances to the first semifinal against #1 seed Georgetown at 5pm Central. The Hoyas beat the Friars 1-0 earlier this season in Rhode Island.
Highlights, courtesy of Providence Athletics:
#6 Butler 1, #3 Xavier 0 - Freshman David Goldsmith scored his league leading 12th goal in the 29th minute, and keeper Jon Dawson made four saves as the Bulldogs beat Xavier for the second time in four days. The Musketeers definitely had their chances in the second half, outshooting Butler 10-2, and forcing Dawson to make three of his saves, but ultimately, they came up short.
Butler advances to the second semifinal match against #2 seed Marquette. Match time is scheduled for 7:30pm Central, but it will depend on the end time of the Georgetown-Providence match. Marquette defeated Butler 3-2 in double overtime during the regular season in Milwaukee.
