Good enough for a bye in the first round, and a Sunday evening match at Valley Fields. Now updated with the correct starting time!

This morning, the NCAA announced the 48 team field for the 2013 College Cup. Marquette earned the #9 seed out of the 16 national seeds in the tournament, and therefore earned a bye to the second round of the tournament.

The Big East's co-regular season champions and Big East tournament champions will next play on Sunday, November 24th at 1pm Central 5pm Central. They await the winner of Indiana at Akron, which will be played on Thursday. Akron (16-3-1) won the 2010 College Cup and earned their spot in this year's tournament by winning the MAC tournament title. Indiana is the defending College Cup champions, and only qualified by winning the Big Ten tournament, as they currently hold a record of 8-11-2, and were 6-11-1 before the Big Ten tournament started.

Including Marquette, five Big East teams qualified for the tournament. Georgetown earned the #6 national seed, while Creighton, Providence, and St. John's all earned unseeded at large bids. Xavier, the third place team in the Big East this season, was left out.

Three opponents from Marquette's non-conference schedule also made it into the field, all three of whom defeated the Golden Eagles. Michigan State was tabbed as the 11th seed in the tournament, while Wisconsin and UW-Milwaukee were unseeded and will actually face each other on Thursday night.

UPDATE! I edited the post, but I'll put it down here so everyone notices: Marquette has announced that the Sunday match against the winner of Indiana at Akron will be on Sunday, November 24, at 5pm!
