Over the last few days, inspired by Grantland's magnificent attempt to identify the most hated college basketball player from the last 30 years, Joe McCann, Dan Maciejewski and I have endeavored to create a similar, single-elimination tournament to find THE most hated opposing player in Marquette's recent history.
To that end, we've created a bracket with the 48* most reviled Marquette opponents from the last 20 (or so) years. (We would've stretched this back to Marquette's glory days in the '70s, but unfortunately none of us were even conceived yet. If you were a shithead in the '70s and you tussled with Al's gang, you have our sincerest (read: half-assed) apologies.) To give this some kind of structure, we've divided the brackets into players from MU's Conference USA years and players from MU's Big East years. Some of these fellas are one-hit wonders; some tortured us for for years. All, however, are deserving of your scorn.
* Why 48 players, you ask? Because we couldn't get to 64, and we couldn't stop at 32, and we couldn't figure out what a 38-person bracket should look like.
Today, we unveil the first pod in the Big East Regional. If you'd be so kind, vote for the cats you like the least using the Google doc below. We'll announce the results in a few days.
