Every year, we've done at least one post to look at where Marquette's players in the NBA Draft pool are sitting in the various mock drafts you can find online. It's a fun little post, and it saves you the time and energy of tracking them all down.
This year, we're all aware that Vander Blue has been lagging behind from the get-go as to people estimating his draft stock. So I decided to wait awhile to let Blue get a bunch of workouts in and see how that might affect his draft outlook. If you've been following along on Twitter, you'll have noticed that Blue has mentioned trips to 12 different cities since the combine, with one being LA which of course houses two different NBA teams. Teams are definitely interested in seeing what he can do.
I had an interesting idea for this year's look at the mock drafts. I was going to look at the guard immediately before and immediately after Blue in the mock draft to get a feel for where he was being slotted. It's something that we haven't done before, and it's always fun to add a twist to the way you do things.
But.
(You knew that was coming, didn't you?)
Vander Blue isn't on anyone's 2 round mock draft. Draft Express, NBADraft.net, CBS Sports, USA Today/HoopsWorld, nothing. I can't speak to ESPN's, because they hide everything except their top 20 behind the Insider paywall.
I'm not saying there's no chance that Vander Blue will be drafted. I remember the last few years that I ended up being surprised that Lazar Hayward and Jimmy Butler suddenly jumped up into the first round. But right now, at least based on the views of people who know a thing or two about a thing or two, next Thursday night might be a very long night if you're waiting with cake and balloons to see Vander Blue's name called.
