7.18 NBA Summer League Roundup

Jamie Rhodes-US PRESSWIRE

#22 Denver 87, #11 New Orleans 82 - Just because you lost three games in a row doesn't mean you can't win your first tournament game. Jordan Hamilton exploded for 18 of his game high 23 in the first quarter for the Nuggets. Eventually Denver would build a 16 point lead, but the Pelicans managed to cut that down to just one point in the fourth quarter, but never managed to tie the game. Darius Miller also had 23 points to lead New Orleans. Darius Johnson-Odom scored five points and handed out four assists in 15 minutes.

#21 Memphis 90, #12 Washington 83 - Yet again, losing three straight games doesn't mean anything in the next one, tournament game or not. This one was close in the first half, but the Grizzlies' defense smothered the Wizards in the third quarter, allowing only eight points. Tony Wroten had a game high 23 points for Memphis and Jack Cooley added 20 points and 12 rebounds. Vander Blue saw 16 minutes of game time, scoring five points, grabbing three rebounds, and snagging one steal.

#13 Minnesota 92, #20 Sacramento 54 - And sometimes losing three straight games is an indicator that you'll lose the next one. The Kings were down 11 after the first quarter and down 26 at the half. It didn't get better after that. Shabazz Muhammad had a game high 17 to lead the Timberwolves. Trent Lockett had the most minutes of any player coming off the bench for Sacramento and had the third most playing time out of anyone on the roster. Lockett had six points on 3-10 shooting and he added a steal as well.

#16 Dallas 95, #17 LA Clippers 89 - This one was back and forth all over the place until Gal Mekel drained a three pointer to give the Mavericks the lead for good. Josh Akognon came off the bench to score a game high 24 points for Dallas and Jackie Carmichael added 23 as well. Jae Crowder had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, or in other words, a standard issue game from Jae's days in a Marquette uniform.
