Here at Anonymous Eagle, we're hip to all the latest trends on the internet... or so we tell ourselves. We know how much the kids today like to keep in touch and communicate through social media. In particular, we're big fans of the service known the world over as Twitter. Each week, we'll bring you a tweet that we found particularly interesting/funny/thought provoking/ridiculous that has some kind of Marquette connection to it.
Usually we like to provide a little bit of introduction before presenting TOTW, but we're going to flip things around this week. Here's the tweets that ended up tied for this week, with a tip of the hat to @TTrentC for the idea:
Don't pay attention to people that don't matter! I'm 21 living a dream....haters gone hate because they could never do it! Humble and Hungry
— Vander Blue (@Vander13lue) July 7, 2013
But when I shine crickets come back out....
— Vander Blue (@Vander13lue) July 7, 2013
These two tweets went up approximately two hours after the end of the Rockets-76ers game in the NBA Orlando Summer League. Blue is on the Rockets' roster for Summer League, but did not play in the game.
Vander, if you're reading this, please get off of Twitter.
The fact of the matter is that the decision to forgo your senior year looked questionable at the time, and going undrafted only brought that aspect of it into focus. Even if they are critical of your decision to leave school, most Marquette fans are willing to support you in your professional career regardless of where you go, just like we do with your former teammates Darius Johnson-Odom and Dwight Buycks. But running out this "haters gonna hate" stuff 120 minutes after going DNP-Coach's Decision only makes you look bad. And let's be honest: some of the ill will towards you was earned by you before you set foot into an official Marquette game.
I get that you're drawing a per diem and getting paid something to be on the summer league rosters for both the Rockets and the Grizzlies, so by that definition, yes, you're living your dream of getting paid to play basketball. But I really don't think part of your dream was "sitting on a folding chair in the Amway Center's practice gym for two hours."
If you can't manage to just ignore anyone who throws any shade in your direction - LIKE YOU SAID YOU SHOULD IN THE FIRST TWEET - then just get off Twitter, just like you tried to do last year. All you're doing is 1) making yourself look bad and 2) encouraging the internet to make snarky responses to you, and if there's one thing the internet is REALLY good at, it's making snarky responses.
Have you seen a Marquette related tweet that you'd like to see in this spot in the future? Let us know on Twitter or send the direct URL link to anon.eagle@gmail.com and be sure to send your Twitter tag along with it so we can give you credit for finding it!
