Thus Begins The Onslaught Of Weekly Awards

Volleyball? Check. Women's Soccer? Check. Men's Soccer? Check.

We'll start with men's soccer, as that squad has a member earning national recognition. Sophomore defender Axel Sjoberg was named to the Big East's Weekly Honor Roll for his play over the weekend. The Sweden native recorded a goal while playing center back for MU as the Golden Eagles outscored their opponents in the 39th Panther Invitational by a total of 7-1. Sjoberg was named MVP of UWM's 39th annual event as a result. On top of his conference honors, Sjoberg earned a spot on College Soccer News' Team Of The Week, a national look at the 11 best players for the past seven days. Sjoberg is one of just two defenders on the squad.

Over in women's soccer, Katie Hishmeh was named to the Big East's Weekly Honor Roll. The senior defender was named Defensive MVP of the first ever Marquette Invitational as this version of the Golden Eagles also outscored their opponents 7-1. Marquette only gave up 14 shots in two games, and only eight of those managed to be on frame. It's the first conference honor in Hishmeh's career.

Autumn Bailey was named Big East Freshman Of The Week in volleyball for the second straight week. The Canadian outside hitter had 20 kills to lead Marquette to a win over TCU after registering just eight kills in the 3-0 loss to #3 USC. Even with her averaging slipping below 5 kills/set, Bailey still leads the Big East at 4.56 kills per set, which is also good enough for 16th best nationally. Senior setter Elizabeth Koberstein picked up a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll as well. Koberstein had 55 assists in the win over TCU and was named to the all-Marquette Challenge team for her efforts on the weekend.

Congratulations to all four athletes!
