25-16, 25-19, 25-14. That's the definition of a #BEATEMDOWN, as the Trojans of USC coasted to a 3-0 victory over Marquette on Friday night.
Marquette's best performance from a hitting accuracy perspective came in the first set, when they hit .231 as a team. The errors equaled the kills at 11 in the second set for a .000 hitting percentage, and got worse from there, as the Golden Eagles dove into negative numbers in the third.
Autumn Bailey had a team high with kills at eight, while Elizabeth Koberstein had assists on 24 of Marquette's 28 kills. Nele Barber, a freshman from Germany, made her Marquette debut with three kills. Barber got her shot in the starting lineup due to Big East preseason all-conference hitter Lindsey Gosh tweaking her knee. Libero Julie Jeziorowski had a match high 11 digs to build on her all time program record.
Because of Marquette's errors, USC only needed 37 kills as a team to pick up the win. Freshman Ebony Nwanebu led USC with 10 kills.
Up Next: As I type this, we're about 70 minutes away from Marquette facing off with TCU at the Al McGuire Center starting at noon. A live stream of the match will be available here.
