1.24 Around The Big East

Well, what do we have here...

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sport

St. John's 77, Seton Hall 76 - Congratulations to St. John's on their first conference victory of the season!

The Red Storm got 16 points each from JaKarr Sampson, D`Angelo Harrison, and Orlando Sanchez, but it was almost all for naught. With 4.3 seconds remaining and SJU only up 1, Sir`Dominic Pointer couldn't find an open teammate after two free throws from Sterling Gibbs. Pointer took a chance and tossed the ball long towards the Pirates basket, hoping that someone would run underneath it and get the clock running.

They didn't.

Sanchez got just enough of a touch on it to force SHU to take it out on the far end and go 94 feet to try for the game winning basket. Pointer took the game back into his own hands and stripped Fuquan Edwin at midcourt to prevent any attempt at a buzzer beater.

"I just had to stop the ball," Pointer said. "I saw (Edwin) put it behind his back. When I seen that I went for the ball. Of course I was taking a chance, but I took it and it worked out. It can be like that sometimes."

The win actually pulls St. John's out of the basement of the Big East for the time being, as they hold a 1-5 record compared to 1-6 for Butler. You can head over to Rumble in the Garden or South Orange Juice for more on the game.
