#1 Denver Defeats #4 Rutgers In Big East Semifinals

Wesley Berg had a seven point day and Erik Adamson chipped in five points of his own as the top seeded Denver Pioneers advanced to the Big East championship game on Saturday by defeating #4 seed Rutgers 14-7.

The Pios went on an 11-2 run that started with 10:29 left in the second quarter and the score knotted at two.  By the time they were finished, Denver had a 13-4 lead and there was just 13:16 left in the fourth quarter.  Seven different Pioneers scored goals on that run.

Rutgers was led by three points from Scott Bieda, all coming on assists.  Brian Goss and Steve DiGiovanni tied for the Scarlet Knights' lead in goals with two.

The win is the first ever Big East tournament for the Pioneers in their first season as a member of the conference.  They advance to play #3 seed Villanova in the championship game.  That game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 on Saturday at 3:30pm Central.
