Goalkeeper Amanda Engel was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. The junior from Centennial, Colorado was named the Defensive MVP of the Marquette Invitational after recording six saves in the Golden Eagles' two games. Five of those came in MU's 1-0 loss to Northwestern on Sunday afternoon, while Engel only needed to make one save to keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Loyola-Chicago to open the season.
Abby Reed from DePaul was named the inaugural Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two game winning goals for the Blue Demons, including an upset of #13 Nebraska. Georgetown's Emma Newins was the Defensive Player of the Week for allowing just one goal on the Hoyas' west coast swing where they went 1-0-1. DePaul's Alexa Ben gets the inside track at Rookie of the Year as the first newbie honoree of the season. Ben dished out two assists, including the helper on Reed's game winner against Nebraska.
Elsewhere In The Big East: Butler went 1-1-0 at the Boilermaker Challenge Cup with a 3-2 2OT win over Ohio and a 1-0 loss to Miami (OH). Senior defender Kelly Mahoney scored two goals, while freshman Madison Card appears to the keeper of choice for the Bulldogs... Creighton started out the season undefeated with a 3-2 win over South Dakota State and a 2-0 blanking of Incarnate Word. Forward Kirstyn Corder had two of the goals in the lidlifter to take the early team lead for the Jays, while Danielle Rice stopped 83% of shots on goal... Providence failed to record a win during the opening weekend, as they drew 1-1 with Rhode Island in the opener and fell 1-0 to Colgate on Sunday. It's no surprise to find Catherine Zimmerman with the lone Friars goal... St. John's won their opener against St. Francis by a score of 3-0, but fell to Army on Monday night, with the Black Knights recording all three goals in the game, including a 75th minute own goal. 2014 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Rachel Daly has just one goal so far this season... Seton Hall opened up with a 2-0 win over Marist, but upon their return to South Orange on Monday night, they suffered their first loss, falling 1-0 to Rider. D'Yonna Riley had the only goal scored by a Pirate, as Marist sent one into their own net, while Gina Maiorana made four saves in the two contests... Villanova's played just one game, a 2-1 loss to crosstown rival Drexel. Sophomore Emma Meyer took the loss in the first game of her collegiate career... Xavier joins Villanova and Providence on the list of teams still searching for a win. They participated in the James Madison Invitational, losing to the hosts as well as Towson. Junior Catherine Allon has the lone goal of the season for the Musketeers.
