Xavier 66, #21 Georgetown 53 - Pro tip: When you're playing your first game after earning a top 25 ranking the day before, don't go over 11 minutes without a field goal.
That's what the Hoyas did on Tuesday night, which led to Xavier taking a 17 point lead late in the first half on a Myles Davis three-pointer. It would dwindle back down to 13 points at intermission, but the Musketeers were able to keep it in double digits for most of the second half, including a peak of 18 points on a Trevon Bluiett triple.
A 17-6 run by Georgetown capped off by a D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera layup drove that lead down to just seven points at 54-47 with 3:54 remaining, but that's the best that the Hoyas could do. A 6-0 run by Xavier that occupied almost all of the next four minutes pretty much ended the game, as that pushed it back to 13 points with just 64 seconds left to play.
It was a well-rounded scoring night for XU with four guys hitting double digits led by 19 from Davis, and Remy Abell contributed 11 points and eight defensive rebounds. DSR had 13 points for Georgetown, and L.J. Peak had 12 points off the bench. Be sure to check out Banners On The Parkway or Casual Hoya for more on the game.
