In the newest Inside Lacrosse Poll that was released on Monday morning, YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles moved up one place to #9 in the country. Yet once again, it is the highest ranking in program history.
Marquette is forced to share the #9 ranking this week with Yale. Both the Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs finished with 279 points, which slotted them 24 points behind #8 Virginia, and 39 points in front of #11 Albany.
Future Marquette opponents that appear in this week's top 20 include #3 Notre Dame, #4 Duke, #6 Denver, and #17 Villanova. Marquette already owns a victory over #15 Ohio State, who jumped into the poll after defeating Denver last week. By way of the transitive property, I am suddenly much less worried about Marquette's game against the Pioneers later this season.
Marquette can solidify their top 10 ranking this week when they play Georgetown. A win wouldn't just keep their season opening winning streak going, but it would also prove that Marquette belongs amongst the nation's elite teams. The Hoyas are just outside the top 20 in the "also receiving votes" category, slotting in at an unofficial #24 in the country.
Marquette will face the Hoyas on Saturday at 11am Central time in Washington D.C.
