After their second straight 1-1 week, it was hard to tell what would happen to Marquette when the new Inside Lacrosse poll came out on Monday morning. Would they dip as they had the week before after losing at Bellarmine and winning at home against St. John's? Or would voters look favorably on a seven goal loss to #1 Notre Dame followed with a road victory over Providence?
Turns out, it was mostly the latter. After being ranked #16 a week ago, Marquette men's lacrosse is now ranked #15 in the country according to the media balloting in the Cascade/Maverik Top 20. The Golden Eagles accrued 121 points, easily falling between #14 Brown (170 points) and #16 Stony Brook (104 points).
Two of MU's three losses this season are to teams ranked in front of them in the poll: #1 Notre Dame and #13 Georgetown. Marquette has just two games remaining this season, and both opponents are ranked in the top 6. #6 Duke will be at Hart Park this coming Saturday afternoon, while #5 Denver makes the same trip to Milwaukee the following Saturday.
