San Antonio 93, Phoenix 90 - Jonathan Simmons came off the bench to light a fire with a team high 23 points for the Spurs as they won the 2015 NBA Las Vegas Summer League tournament by defeating the Suns on Monday night.
You can't really call it back and forth action, but the teams took turns building quality leads. The Suns were up 10 late in the first quarter, but San Antonio came back to take a nine point lead early in the third quarter. Phoenix ended up wiping out that margin with just over a minute left in the third frame. San Antonio moved quickly to re-establish their lead with the last six points of the third and eventually built the lead to 14 points. It was just enough space for them, as even the final score doesn't tell the whole story: Phoenix's Mike James hit a triple with one second remaining to make the game look closer than it actually was.
While Simmons led the Spurs, it was James that led the Suns. He scored a game high 32 points including that final three-pointer, his third of the game. Alex Len had a quality game for Phoenix, recording nine points and 13 rebounds.
Jerel McNeal made his final appearance for the Suns in this game, as he was released from his contract late last week. Marquette's all time leading scorer played 14 minutes in the title game, contributing three rebounds and a steal to the losing effort.
