Governor Scott Walker, get your signing pen ready.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed the Milwaukee arena bill by a vote of 52-34. The bill was the exact same one that cleared the Senate on July 15th, as no amendments to the bill were added by the Assembly. The bill now moves to the governor's office to be signed into law, and since Governor Walker has long been banging the drum to get this project passed, it should just be a matter of time before that happens.
This approval is not the final hurdle on the track for a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks and Marquette men's basketball. There will still be a vote from the Milwaukee Common Council to approve the construction and the city's aspect of the funding.
As was the case in mid-July, we have to give a shoutout to Save Our Bucks. Those guys did an outstanding effort organizing a grassroots movement to make sure that the state senators and assemblypeople were aware of the positive feelings amongst the citizens of Wisconsin towards constructing a new downtown arena. Be sure to keep your eyes and web browsers pointed towards their website as well as their their Twitter for further news regarding the arena project.
