On Saturday, Marquette women’s basketball ran away from #18 Arizona State in the fourth quarter on their way to a 75-63 victory over the Sun Devils.

On Monday, the undefeated Golden Eagles picked up votes in the Associated Press top 25 poll for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Seven different voters included Marquette in their list of the 25 teams in America, with their placing ranging from #22 to #25. The most popular placing was #24, with three pollsters inserting the Golden Eagles there. With 18 points from those seven votes, Marquette is unofficially the #31 team in the country.

Arizona State dropped down to #23 in the poll, while Tuesday night’s opponent, Oregon State, moved up from #24 to #22. The only other Marquette opponent in the top 25 is DePaul, who is up two spots to #18 in the country this week.

There is one future MU opponent in the receiving votes category with the Golden Eagles. Wisconsin-Green Bay is the preseason pick in the Horizon League for the ninth consecutive season, and the Phoenix picked up seven points in this week’s poll. They’re not undefeated this season, but you can’t blame them for losing by just four points to #1 Notre Dame.
