Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Canadian big man and Class of 2016 recruit Kalif Young will visit Marquette on Wednesday, May 4, and Thursday, May 5.
This is a change in plans from last week Tuesday, when Velazquez reported that Marquette had no other visits scheduled after Duquesne grad transfer L.G. Gill's visit over this past weekend. That report was in response to a long standing report that Young was going to be visiting Marquette at the same time as Gill. Something happened that caused Young to cancel his visit, but now it's been rescheduled for this week.
The most likely culprit for the change in plans is that Gill could only visit over this past weekend while Young had a more wide open schedule and Marquette didn't want to host two recruits on an official visit at once. Of course, the note about Marquette not having any other visits schedule bring to mind the fact that Young has also rescheduled a visit to Providence, and there's some reason to believe that he didn't visit Alabama as scheduled on April 19-21.
Young, who is listed at 6'9", and 225 lb. on his 247 Sports page, attends Orangeville Prep in Ontario, Canada. Based on the Class of 2017 offers that are pouring in during the spring recruiting period, I would have to imagine that for head coach Steve Wojciechowski, Young is a backup plan for Gill at this point. By my count, Marquette has offers that we know about out to five forwards that are listed at 6'7" or taller for 2017. If Young were to end up attending Marquette, it seems very obvious that Wojo has every intention of recruiting someone better than Young at his position in the very next class, as Young is ranked #320 in the Class of 2016 according to 247 Sports. If Young ends up in Milwaukee, he will be the lowest ranked Marquette recruit on 247 since Chris Otule in the class of 2008, who was ranked #583.
As things stand right now, Marquette has one scholarship available for this fall. Gill is scheduled to visit Maryland this weekend, so we'll have to keep our eyes and ears open to see what happens...
