After a 119-45 win against Chinese Taipei on Thursday, USA Basketball’s U17 squad looks to move to 2-0 in group play when they take on Turkey in their second game in the FIBA U17 World Championship.
Why are we mentioning this here, on your favorite Marquette athletics website/blog/The O.C. recap site? Well, because incoming men’s basketball freshman Markus Howard is on Team USA, that’s why. Even more importantly, FIBA is going to be streaming all of the games on their YouTube channel, and we wanted to give you a chance to watch Howard in action.
Howard finished the game against Chinese Taipei with 10 points, three rebounds, a game high four assists, a steal, and a block.
Today's game starts at 2pm Central time, and here’s the video, thanks to FIBA enabling embedding of the video streams.
According to this handy dandy roster from USA Basketball, Howard will be wearing #5 for the Baby Nats, but don’t get used to that. He’ll be wearing #0 when he gets to Milwaukee this fall.
While Howard will matriculate at Marquette immediately after finishing up with Team USA, there’s a couple of his teammates that have a chance to follow in his footsteps. Marquette has shown some level of interest in both Carte’Are Gordon (2018 top 100 power forward, wearing #13) and Immanuel Quickley (2018 top 25 point guard, wearing #4), so keep an eye on those guys, too.
