WATCH LIVE: Markus Howard & Team USA vs South Korea In FIBA U17 World Championship Quarterfinals

The incoming MU freshman & the Baby Nats look to advance to the semifinals.

After nearly doubling up Argentina in the Round of 16, USA Basketball’s U17 squad advances to the quarterfinals of the FIBA World Championship, where they will play South Korea.

Why are we mentioning this here, on your favorite Marquette athletics website/blog/The O.C. recap site? Well, because incoming men’s basketball freshman Markus Howard is on Team USA, that’s why. Even more importantly, FIBA is going to be streaming all of the games on their YouTube channel, and we wanted to give you a chance to watch Howard in action.

Howard has been at the forefront of the American attack, averaging 12.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. He’s also shooting 55% from long range (11/20), making him the only reliable shooter on the team. Howard’s teammates went 5/19 from distance against Argentina in the Round Of 16, so we should probably be thankful that the team is being coached to play for transition buckets.

Thursday’s game starts at 2pm Central time, and here’s the video, thanks to FIBA enabling embedding of the video streams.

According to this handy dandy roster from USA Basketball, Howard will be wearing #5 for the Baby Nats, but don’t get used to that. He’ll be wearing #0 when he gets to Milwaukee this fall.

While Howard will matriculate at Marquette immediately after finishing up with Team USA, there’s a couple of his teammates that have a chance to follow in his footsteps. Marquette has shown some level of interest in both Carte’Are Gordon (2018 top 100 power forward, wearing #13) and Immanuel Quickley (2018 top 25 point guard, wearing #4), so keep an eye on those guys, too.
