IT’S GAME DAY!

After a thrilling come from behind victory over Hoopville Warriors (which you can re-watch, if you want), Golden Eagles Alumni moves on to Sunday’s second round in the 2016 edition of The Basketball Tournament. Let’s get to the details on that game....

#3 Spartan Heroes vs #6 Golden Eagles Alumni

When: Sunday, July 17, 2016, at 4:15pm
Where: The Shannon Center at St. Xavier University in Chicago, IL
Audio/Visual: Whistle Sports is streaming all of the games through Facebook.
Twitter Updates: @thetournament@GoldenEaglesTBT, and @Spartan_Heroes

Just like yesterday, GEA vs SH will be the final game of the day in Chicago. The day gets started at 11am Central time in Chicago. The Northeast Regional is also playing their second round today, which is already underway while you’re reading this. Those games are also being streamed live on Facebook, and you can get the whole schedule for the day right here.

Let’s get into the rosters for today’s game. First up, your favorite team of Marquette alumni.

  • Maurice Acker
  • Dwight Burke
  • Dwight Buycks
  • Joe Chapman
  • Marcus Jackson
  • Darius Johnson-Odom
  • Jerel McNeal
  • Derrick Wilson

There are three names missing from that list. Trent Lockett is listed on the official roster, but he was AWOL yesterday. Davante Gardner is skipping this first weekend to be at a tryout for a Korean pro team in Las Vegas, and getting that long term contract is much more important than this event. Jamil Wilson wrapped up Summer League play with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, so no one is blaming him for not getting to Chicago on Saturday. He might be available today, though.

Moving on to Spartan Heroes, the team of Michigan State alumni:

  • Brandon Wood
  • Alan Michael Arnett
  • Charlie Bell
  • Brandan Kearney
  • Korie Lucious
  • Nate Miller
  • Raymar Morgan
  • Derrick Nix
  • Leon Rodgers
  • Delvon Roe
  • Durrell Summers

That’s who’s on the official roster, but in their 93-84 overtime win over Ohio United, they were missing four guys: Lucious, Morgan, Nix and Summers. I remember seeing Lucious’ name in a Golden State Warriors box score during Summer League, but it was in the consolation round, making him as potentially available as Jamil Wilson. Leon Rodgers was the high scorer for Spartan Heroes, getting 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 behind the arc. SH had four guys with either eight or nine rebounds, which may be a problem for the size challenged Marquette alums.
