The 2016-17 Marquette sports calendar officially gets started on Thursday evening when the men’s and women’s soccer team host their yearly Fan Fest at Valley Fields. The Fan Fest, which will take place on the west end of Valley Fields, will be followed up with an exhibition match between Marquette and Wisconsin, and the men’s team will play an intra-squad scrimmage at halftime of the women’s game. Admission to everything is free, including the Qdoba bar before the start of the MU-UW match.

Marquette and Wisconsin have played an exhibition match against each other in each of the last nine seasons, with MU holding a 3-2-4 advantage in that series. MU and UW have not played a regular season match since the 2004 season, but they have played two NCAA tournament games in the interim, with the Golden Eagles winning in 2005 and advancing on penalty kicks in 2010. Marquette returns eight of eleven starters from last season, and as of yesterday, was picked to finish third in the Big East this season. Wisconsin went 11-6-3 last season, but NSCAA First Team All-American forward Rose Lavell loses the next two scorers behind her from last year’s squad.

Here’s the schedule of events down at Valley Fields on Thursday:
