Marquette men’s basketball is lucky enough to have two former players participating in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Jimmy Butler is participating as a member of the United States national team, while David Cubillian is a part of the Venezuelan national team.
The opening ceremonies in Brazil are on Friday, August 5th, and the men’s basketball tournament kicks off the very next day. Both the US and Venezuela are in Group A, so they’ll both be playing every other day for the first eight days of the Olympics.
There’s two groups for pool play, and the top four teams in each group will advance to the knockout round, which begins with the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 17th. Every single game of the tournament will be streamed through NBCOlympics.com and on the NBC Sports Live Extra app, so you can always watch that way. Each of the preliminary games for the United States will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, while Venezuela’s games will be broadcast via the basketball specialty channel that NBC is creating specifically for the Olympics. Hopefully your cable or satellite provider is picking that up so you can catch all the Cooby action your heart desires.
