Marquette Volleyball No Longer Receiving Votes In AVCA Top 25 Poll

Well, at least not enough to be listed.

After being listed in the receiving votes category in the first two polls of the 2016 season, Marquette volleyball is no longer getting votes in the newest AVCA top 25 poll.

The Golden Eagles had 34 points in last week’s edition of the poll, up from just six points in the preseason poll. Saturday’s loss to also unranked but receiving votes Wichita State probably did the damage to Marquette.

It is possible that Marquette was mentioned on one ballot. The AVCA says that four teams earned a combined 13 points for being mentioned on only one ballot each, so it’s possible that MU is one of them.

You would have thought that USC bouncing back to .500 with three straight wins and jumping back into the top 25 at #24 would have been beneficial to Marquette’s inclusion in the poll. The Golden Eagles defeated the Trojans 3-1 in the first match of the season for both teams back when the Women Of Troy were ranked #7 in the country. Santa Clara makes their debut in the top 25 this week, jumping in at #19 as the Broncos are still undefeated this season.

That wraps up the ranked opponent discussion for this week, but there are five MU opponents that are still receiving votes. Kentucky, who will host MU this coming weekend, is first and foremost amongst those, sitting at an unofficial #29 in the country. Big East foe Creighton is right behind the Wildcats, as the Bluejays drop out of the top 25. Wichita State (#35), Missouri State (#38), and Iowa State (#39) round on the list of vote-getters, with the final two squads scheduled to come to Milwaukee for the Marquette Invitational on September 16th and 17th.
