ESPN’s Bracketology Has Marquette Women’s Basketball In The NCAA Tournament

For now, of course. Lots of basketball left to be played.

On Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Charlie Creme published an update to his NCAA women’s basketball tournament bracketology. Some of it is not news to anyone. For example, Connecticut is a #1 seed. I know, shocking, right?

What is news, though, at least for our purposes here at Anonymous Eagle, is that Creme as YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles as a 9 seed in the field.

MU is partnered up with #8 seed LSU, with both the Golden Eagles and Tigers headed to Waco, Texas, for their first round game. The winner would advance to play the winner of the 1/16 game between the hosting Baylor Bears, who are the #1 seed in the Oklahoma City region, and Texas Southern, the #16 seed.

Marquette is one of two Big East teams in the field. DePaul, which currently boasts an undefeated record in league play and a #19 ranking in the Associated Press top 25, are a 5 seed in the bracket, and looking at a first round game against 12th seeded Quinnipiac, the current leader in the America East conference. Creighton earns the top spot in the “first four out” category.

Three Marquette non-conference opponents are in the field, and you shouldn’t be surprised as to which three it is. Both Arizona State and Oregon State are in the field and pulling a job hosting in the first round. The Beavers are a #3 seed, while the Sun Devils slot at #4. Green Bay makes the field as the current leaders in the Horizon League, and they would probably make it as an at-large team as a #7 seed as well.

You can check out the whole bracket right here.
