Last week, Marquette women’s basketball appeared on just one Associated Press ballot. This week, that number is up to two.
The Golden Eagles picked up three points in the newest AP poll after going 2-0 with two road wins to open Big East play. Those three points come via a 24th place vote from Dan Fleser of the Knoxville News Sentinel and a 25th place vote from Matt Bain of the Iowa City Press Citizen. Fleser’s vote has MU in the same spot as last week, while the Golden Eagles are new entry on Bain’s ballot. This still has MU a long way away from the #25 spot, but it does make them the unofficial #38 team in the country.
DePaul is the only other Big East team earning votes this week as the Blue Demons are ranked #23 in the country. Like Marquette, they are 2-0 in league play heading into Monday night’s home game against Providence.
Arizona State and Oregon State continue to earn much more national attention than Marquette, even though the Golden Eagles own wins over both squads this season. The Sun Devils are ranked #19 this week, while the Beavers check in at #16. FUN FACT: Oregon State has just one loss on the season and 301 more AP poll points than the team that beat them. Whassupwidat?
Rounding out the MU opponents earning votes this week is Green Bay. The Phoenix snagged five points this week to land two spots ahead of Marquette in the receiving votes department.
Marquette hosts Creighton in a battle of undefeated Big East teams at 7:30pm Central, and you can catch the action on FS1 and Fox Sports Go.
