Here it is folks, the last regular season preview blog of the season. After writing 15 regular season preview blogs, (it’s been that many?), we gather to write the final of this regular season. If you have been reading the blog, you know that Marquette has made the Big East Tournament as the two seed, so luckily this will not be my final preview of the year.

Last weekend, the team obliterated the horrendous Georgetown Hoyas and then got tested by Josh Steinbach’s Villanova Wildcats. I had no idea, but the boss told me that Steinbach is Ryan Theis’ kyrptonite and does a fantastic job coaching against Theis. So after honoring the lone senior, Manon Geoffroy, on senior night, the Golden Eagles were taken to five sets by the Wildcats for the second time this season. Luckily the Golden Eagles came out victorious the second time around. We now look towards the last regular season game against a bad DePaul team.

Big East Match #18: at DePaul Blue Demons (8-21, 2-15)

The DePaul Blue Demons have not had a great season at all this year, it is pretty obvious by looking at their record. They are in last place in the Big East BEHIND GEORGETOWN. I just talked about how bad Georgetown was and now I have to talk about a team that is worse, wow.

Brittney Maxwell is still leads the Blue Demons in kills and has really broke through as the team’s biggest offensive threat. Last time we checked in on DePaul, Claire Anderson was right behind Maxwell for the team lead, but it seems Anderson has gone down with an apparent injury. Maxwell had 10 kills in the team’s loss the Villanova. In the team’s second win in the Big East over Georgetown Maxwell had 18 kills.

I do not know what is going on with Blue Demons’ setting situation. Last time we checked in Kelsey Horvath was setting, but she must’ve gone down with an injury because she has only appeared in 87 of DePaul’s 107 sets this year. Katie Dolan has stepped in and is averaging 6.06 assists per set now. In the win over Georgetown Horvath had 44 assists. Y’know, these injuries do explain DePaul’s fall from 6-6 in non-conference action to their current 8-21 record.

My prediction for this one is pretty easy. Marquette in three sets. Maybe Ryan Theis will bench the starters after a two set lead to rest them for the Big East Tournament next week. The Golden Eagles should be excited and so should you. This team is capable of shocking a couple people and teams.
