Marquette Women’s Basketball Got One Associated Press Top 25 Vote This Week

One, lone, solitary 25th place vote. Still more than last week, though....

After yet another few weeks away, Marquette women’s basketball finds themselves back in the Receiving Votes department of the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

This season has been one long strange roller coaster of a trip. Up and down and up and down, and right along with those rises and falls went a smattering of Associated Press Top 25 votes. The Golden Eagles never seemed to do enough to stay in the Receiving Votes category, and definitely never enough to actually get ranked.

After Sunday’s victory over #17 DePaul, the Golden Eagles were granted one 25th place vote by Deb Antonelli of Westwood One. She was the only voter who overlooked Marquette’s season sweeps at the hands of Creighton and St. John’s as well as the road loss to Providence to give MU a spot listed at the bottom of the newest top 25.

DePaul slipped from #17 to #19 after Sunday afternoon’s loss. Oregon State shifted up one line to #10 in the country, a long, long way from their home loss to Marquette back in November. There are three teams on MU’s schedule this season down in the Receiving Votes department with the Golden Eagles: Creighton picked up 32 points, Green Bay racked up four points, and Arizona State has fallen from grace after losing six of their last 12 games, resting four spots in front of Marquette with three points.

You can check out the full top 25 right here, along with how each voter filled out their ballot.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday night when they play host to Georgetown at the Al McGuire Center.
