Marquette Women’s Basketball Goes 2-0, But Loses Their Lone Associated Press Vote

That’s a bunch of bullhonky.

All season long, Marquette women’s basketball has been tilting in and out of the Receiving Votes department in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. It started with their win over a ranked Arizona State team early in the season, and MU would do enough to get a voter or three’s attention, and then they’d lose and drop back out. Wash, rinse, repeat.

However, Marquette is on a five game winning streak after beating Georgetown and Villanova over the weekend, and after getting one 25th place vote last week because of their win over DePaul, MU should be set up for a few more votes, right?

Wrong.

The Golden Eagles got no votes in this week’s AP poll. Thanks for nothing, Deb Antonelli.

The aforementioned Blue Demons are ranked #18 in this week’s poll, even though they’ve lost to Marquette twice this season. Oregon State, which suffered a home loss to Marquette earlier this season, is tied for #6 in the poll. Down in the Receiving Votes Department, you’ll find Creighton (41 points, unofficially #26 in the country) and Green Bay (5 points), both of whom beat Marquette this season, as well as the aforementioned Arizona State squad.

You can check out the full results of the AP poll, including each voter’s ballot, right here.

Marquette returns to action on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament, which is being hosted at the McGuire Center. As the #3 seed, they’ll play #6 seed Georgetown at 2:30pm Central on Sunday afternoon. The tournament gets started with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
