Here we are, guys. One last game of the 2016-17 season.
In something of an odd twist, Monday night’s national championship game is a reflection of the 1977 title game. You have North Carolina, a team with tradition looking for another title, and Gonzaga, the small Jesuit school looking for their first national championship.
I have to say that my heart is in cheering for Gonzaga to come away with the title, although I certainly hope this won’t be Mark Few’s final game coaching the Bulldogs. However, I wouldn’t be disappointed in seeing North Carolina win. Too many people got way too excited about the ACC losing all of their tournament teams except the Heels before the Sweet 16. I’m no fan of the ACC or their television contract overlords thanks to their hand in the destruction of the best basketball conference ever created, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to start demeaning that entire league because a few teams lost a game in a crapshoot of a one-and-done tournament.
I don’t necessarily agree with the kind of late start time, but the good news is that it gives everyone (at least in the Eastern and Central time zones) a chance to watch the first 75 minutes of the post-WrestleMania Raw before the game starts.
