We can always rely on the recruiting services to provide us with something to talk about in the summer, and that’s exactly what Scout did with their brand new Class of 2018 top 100.
From what I can tell, there’s four guys in the top 100 that Marquette are working on recruiting at this point. Tops on that list is Wisconsin’s very own Joey Hauser, who comes in at #18. Quentin Grimes, a point guard out of Texas, comes in at #23 to round out MU’s involvement in the top 25.
The remaining two guys are in the 70 to 100 area of the rankings. Race Thompson comes in at #71 and Noah Locke sits at #91. The Marquette staff has been out to visit Thompson since the college hoops season ends and Locke received a scholarship offer in early May.
There are a few of guys in the top 100 that Marquette has been involved with in the past, and while they haven’t committed to anywhere yet, I’m pretty sure MU isn’t working to recruit them at this point. Tre Jones is ranked #7 in the country, Ayo Dosunmu is #29, Khavon Moore is #80, and Tim Finke gets the #83 spot. Things can change, of course, but with Marquette sitting at just one available scholarship for the fall of 2018 right now, I think it’s safe to say that the ship has sailed on these guys.
The Big East has two committed recruits in the top 100 right now. Brandon Slater (#43) is committed to Villanova, and Tyger Campbell (#53) is set to head to DePaul. Yes, we live in a world where DePaul is a recruiting leader at the moment. The Pac-12 is tearing it up in 2018 recruiting with seven top 100 players, while both the ACC and Big Ten have racked up five commitments each already.
