While the NBA Draft doesn’t carry the same excitement for Marquette Golden Eagles fans as it did last year when we were waiting to see where Henry Ellenson would be selected, the 2017 iteration is sure to be Must See TV.
The NBA Draft is the best television product of any draft in sports, and it’s probably the best non-game event in sports as well. It’s only 60 picks long, so the whole thing will be wrapped up inside of 5 hours at most. There’s always the entertainment value of Commissioner Adam Silver interacting with each of the draft picks in attendance, and merely watching to see what absurd outfits these 19 year olds pick out (with the assistance of a stylist employed by their agent, natch) is always worth your time.
There’s also the NBA’s super weird policy on trades. For whatever reason, they won’t announce trades during the draft. For example, we already know that the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics flipped picks in the draft, and the draft order will reflect that. Any trades made during the draft, though, won’t be officially announced and will require the ESPN broadcast crew to continually explain them, and that’s always a blast.
The most fun of all? Watching Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski announcing picks on Twitter long before they’re officially announced on stage, sometimed even two or three picks ahead of time.
Here’s a feed of Woj’s tweets to help you stay up to date as the draft progresses.
