Dallas Mavericks 94, Indiana Pacers 79 - At face value, this is a lopsided final score. And it is, with the Mavs moving to 3-0 in Summer League action thanks to the 15 point victory. However, it’s actually worse than that for the Pacers, as they led 24-12 at the end of the first 10 minute session. It was all downhill from there, with Dallas cutting the margin to only four at the half and going on to win from there.
Yet once again, Dwight Buycks had a major impact on the Mavericks victory. The Milwaukee native had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting with two of his misses coming from long range. Buycks also chipped in five rebounds and a team high five assists to help push Dallas to the victory. Can you believe that Dallas isn’t taking Buycks to the Vegas Summer League??

Detroit Pistons 73, Miami Heat 71 (2 OT) - WOOOOOOOOO SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME!
One of the most underrated parts of Summer League is their use of “next basket wins it” if the two teams are tied after a two minute overtime session. That was the case in this one as the Heat wiped out a 14 point halftime deficit and nearly took it in regulation. Detroit’s Luke Kennard was fouled shooting a triple with one second left on the clock, and that sent it to overtime.
Neither team recorded a point in the two minute overtime period, leaving it to Pierre Jackson to send home the scoop layup after Miami’s Okaru White missed two shots on the other end. Head over to the official NBA.com recap page for a full highlight package as well as a spotlight on Jackson’s winner and two nifty plays by former Marquette forward Henry Ellenson.
Ellenson finished the game with a team high 18 points, although he had to share that honor with Kennard. Ellenson also chipped in six rebounds and a lone assist, and he had a rough day on defense while committing five fouls.
